Searching the Web

Not all websites are created equal. Minimize confusion about the quality or veracity of a site by using focused search engines. Each of the search engines listed to the right will search specific domains or types of items. In this case, .gov (U.S. government) sites OR, in the case of Google Scholar, scholarly works that have been scanned or cited online.

The Web Search Caveat Still Applies:

As always, even with focused search engines, search results need to be critically assessed and analyzed by you, the researcher.

Follow the UCSC Library's guidelines for assessing web pages if you are unsure about a particular site.

Remember to look for accuracy of information, authority of author(s), objectivity of discussion, currency of information, and assess the coverage of the topic.
